The events of “Unreality” unfold in the small provincial town of Kostrov, where the main character comes from. Rita (Olga Dibtseva) visits her parents, trying to stay with them for a few days. Father (Nikolai Fomenko) closes the door right in front of her. Mother (Inga Oboldina), after a short argument, still lets the girl on the threshold.

Filming of the series took place on an expedition. The film crew went to the city of Kimry, located in the Tver region. The main block of filming took place on its streets. Part of the filming period took place in the neighboring city of Dubna (already in the Moscow region). Both cities stretch along the banks of the Volga.
According to director Anna Parmas, these places are not yet too densely covered by film and television people. The locations responded to the artistic intent of the series. Both Kimry and Dubna are two-storey, cozy, rich cities.

As for the study of interiors and exteriors, the director did not want it to be a gloomy, harsh outback. Bonfires from “Unreality” is a temperamental, colorful city in which life is in full swing. Kimry in this regard is somewhat reminiscent of provincial low-rise Mexico. The passions that unfold on the streets of this city according to the plot are breathtaking.
Filming of the interior took place in real apartments. It took a long time to find suitable apartments: they had to fit the inner world of the main characters. The apartment of Rita’s parents was found in the urban-type settlement of Verbilki in the same Tver region. There, the team of the series found five-story buildings, naturally frozen in time. Nothing has been changed inside.

Anna Parmas has known cameraman Levan Kapanadze, who filmed Unreality for several years. He filmed her debut feature “Let’s Divorce!”. The director did not have any questions with whom to do the series.
I really like Levan’s temperament, he has such a picture, as if you feel the beating of his heart, – said Parmas.
Remembering extraordinary episodes on the set, the director noted that it would be easier to remember the days when everything went according to the plan and schedule of the shift. As a rule, emergencies occurred constantly. When filming the scene with the grandmothers in the market, one of the crowd scene actresses forgot to take off her lavalier microphone. After the end of the shift, she just got on her bike and left for no one knows where. The administrators began to interview other actors, maybe someone knows her contacts – the microphone still costs a lot of money. Nobody knew where she lived. As a result, for almost a week, the film crew and volunteers who volunteered to help searched for the grandmother and found her when she returned to the market for shopping. The microphone was intact and returned to the team.
