We were already eagerly awaiting the return of Idris Elba’s John Luther for the movie spin-off. Luther: the fallen sun. Now we know when that return will happen: February 24 in theaters and March 10 on Netflix.
The film, written and produced by show creator Neil Cross and directed by season five director Jamie Payne, finds Luther hot on his heels behind bars as the fallout from his rule-breaking catches up with him. .
But thinking that an espionage criminal (who, according to his own man, is played by Andy Serkis) begins to make fun of our taciturn and horribly murderous hero in London, Luther escapes prison to investigate with his inimitable style (lease: breaking the rules).
“He did so much to get around the law and catch bad guys that he ended up in prison,” Elba said. “This is where we begin the story. This old case never really solved reappears in his life. And John can’t help but find a way to get involved. That bad guy is out there and he has to go find him.
“Luther is an unstoppable force,” says Payne. “But until now he’s had to get around the police law, because it was his job. Now he is on the run. It’s Luther without any conditions. This man is so forward thinking and in action. He’s like a wrecking ball, but the smartest wrecking ball you’ll ever meet in your life.”
As mentioned, we will be able to see Luther doing his thing in theaters starting February 24th and on Netflix starting March 10th.
