Set during the Great Depression (also known as the Crash of 1929), the gangster film saw him take his revenge on the man who killed his family. the road to perdition it won several awards and also starred some top talent including Paul Newman, Jude Law and Daniel Craig but Tom Hanks believes that people don’t consider it one of his greatest films.
“For one reason or another, no one refers to the road to perditionand that was an incredibly important film to me,” the actor said on the reelBlend podcast. “It was shot by Conrad Hall, and you have me, Dom Mustache with a hat on, but you also have two guys who are became two of the biggest cinematic attendances in industry history with Jude Law and [Daniel] craves. And I killed them both.
While he’s not sure why he isn’t asked more in interviews, Hanks thinks it could be a movie people will revisit at some point. “People always say, ‘What movies are they going to be talking about in a few years?'” he added. “As a guy who watches a lot of Turner Classic movies, the darker and more unknown a 1940s or 1950s movie the better, because I have no preconceptions about it; I don’t know anything about it,” the actor explained.
“When you look at these movies and it’s amazing and incredibly moving, all I can think is, ‘I’m so glad this movie lasted forever, so I had a chance to see it again now.’ This may be the case with road of destiny,” Hanks said.
Tom Hanks has already stated that he believes he has made only four “very good” films in his career and it is to be imagined that, defending road of destinyindicates that this is one of them.
