The arrest will be a protest against speculation allegations
The associations representing petrol stations in Italy confirmed this Thursday (19) the sector strike called for next week, after the failure of negotiations with the government to avoid the blockade.
“I am deeply disappointed,” said the president of the Italian federation of road station managers (Figisc), Bruno Bearzi, after a meeting with the enterprise minister, Adolfo Urso. “We expected much more to cancel the strike,” he added.
The stop was called in protest against the accusations of speculation aimed at the category due to the recent increase in fuel prices, a movement that began after the end of the exemptions on petrol at the turn of the year.
To combat inflation in the sector, Giorgia Meloni’s government has approved a decree obliging petrol stations to display the national average price alongside the amounts charged in the same year, a measure which has irritated the managers.
“There has been an effort to reduce fines, but the obligation to display prices remains. The message is that we are a category to keep under control because we speculate,” Bearzi said, adding that the stations remain open to negotiation.
Initially the decree provided for fines of up to €6,000, but the government has proposed to reduce the maximum amount to €800.
The disruption is expected to start at 19:00 on 24 January and is expected to last 48 hours, but will guarantee minimum essential services. .
