BAFTA 2023 nominations: All at once and Inisherin’s Banshees tie as all is silent on the Western Front lead the pack

After the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards, the giants of the awards season loom: and the BAFTA nominations have officially arrived. The UK’s biggest film celebration has unveiled the full list of nominees, celebrating the best British films. and beyond, and leading the pack with 14 nominations is there Quiet on the west facadeEdward Berger’s new adaptation of the 1929 war novel. In addition to receiving Best Picture and Best Director nominations, he earned Supporting Actor accolades for Albrecht Schuch, a non-English language film, adapted screenplay, editing , sound, original soundtrack and many more.

I’m not far behind All everywhere at once Yup The Banshees of Inisherin – who each received 10 nominations. Both are nominated for Best Picture, as well as for Original Screenplay and Direction (for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert and Martin McDonagh, respectively). In the Everything Bagel team, Michelle Yeoh was nominated for lead actress, while Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis were nominated for supporting roles and actress (not Stephanie Hsu, however, who was somewhat overlooked during this awards season ). There were also a number of actor nominations in the cast of Jenny The Donkey, with Colin Farrell as lead actor, Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan as supporting actor and Kerry Condon as actress in a supporting role.

All everywhere at once

Baz Luhrmann is also doing well in the race. Elvis – which is one of five films nominated for Best Picture. It garnered nine nominations total, not for Luhrmann himself, but for Austin Butler in Lead Actor, Cinematography, Sound, Editing and more. Rounding out the nominees for Best Picture is TAR – which also saw Todd Field nominated for direction and original screenplay, Cate Blanchett for lead actress and a nomination for sound.

In other places there is a lot to tell. Good luck to you Big Leo earned four nominations: for Daryl McCormack (also in the audience-voted EE Rising Star category) and Emma Thompson in the acting lists, as well as Best British Film and Best Writing Debut for Katy Brand. Park Chan-wook’s Korean thriller decision to leave nominated as director, while the film is nominated for Film Not In The English Language. Brendan Fraser received a Best Actor nomination for The whale (with Hong Chau for Best Supporting Actress, plus a nomination for Adapted Screenplay, but notably not nominated for Best Picture or Best Director), Angela Bassett’s heartbreaking role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever nominated her for Supporting Actress and the Animation category is a short list of achievements: Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro, Marcel the shell with his shoes, Puss in Boots: The Last WishYup turns red.

Cinematographer Greig Fraser is ready for his outstanding work the Batmanweather Top Gun: nonconformistEddie Hamilton’s maverick editor has achieved accolades in his field. There is some love for the woman kingWith Gina Prince-Bythewood as director and Viola Davis as best actress, Paul Mescal was awarded after the sun (which also earned nominations for Best British Film and Best Debut for Charlotte Wells) and a nomination for Visual Effects for Avatar: the path of water – We interpret it as a specific price for Payakan.

Biggest surprise here, Stephanie Hsu aside? There is no word for Sarah Polley women talking, I’m sure you understand, well, everyone talks. And while Steven Spielberg The Fabelmans received a nomination for Best Original Screenplay, it was not nominated for Best Picture, Director or any of the acting categories. Also, there is nothing for the international atmosphere. RRR – also in the Non-English Films category.

Sara Quiet on the west facade sweep the table at night? We live in a universe where All everywhere at once bags all prices? What if Banshee of Inisherin doesn’t win, will there be dismembered fingers thrown at the doors of BAFTA HQ? We’ll find out in a month, with the BAFTA ceremony taking place at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 19 February. Starts the countdown.
