The film won at the San Sebastián festival in the Latin Horizons Section.
After going through festivals, and winning three awards at the last edition of Locarno and the Horizontes Latinos Award at the 70th Edition of the San Sebastian Festival, ‘I have electric dreams’ by Costa Rican filmmaker Valentina Maurel will hit theaters in February, in addition to continuing his brilliant journey through prestigious international competitions. In Locarno, specifically, he won the Awards for Best Director, for Best Actress for Daniela Marín Navarro and for Best Actor for Reinaldo Amien Gutiérrez. The protagonist of it has also received the Best Actress Award at the Biarritz Festival.
The filmmaker, born in San José, Costa Rica, in 1988, studied Film Directing at the INSAS in Brussels. Her graduation short film, ‘Paul Is Here’received the first prize in the Cinéfondation section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. His second short film, ‘Lucía en el limbo’, was presented at the Critics’ Week of the French competition, as well as at the Toronto Festivaland received the First Prize at the Guanajuato Festival (Mexico).
The ‘I have electric dreams’ project was selected in 2020 under the title ‘Garden on fire’ for Project at the San Sebastian festival.
Eva, the protagonist of the story, cannot bear the fact that her mother wants to renovate the house and get rid of the cat, which, disoriented since the divorce, urinates everywhere. She wants to leave and go live with her father, who, also disoriented like the cat, is experiencing a second adolescence. Eva follows him as she tries to reconnect with her desire to become an artist and find love again. However, like someone who crosses an ocean of adults without knowing how to swim, Eva will also discover the rage that eats at her, and that she unknowingly inherited from him.
It has been commented on the film that it is “One of the great movies of the year. Blessed glory to those of us who continue to believe in the Seventh Art. Elamedia Estudios will premiere in theaters the co-production between Costa Rica (Three sad tigers), Belgium (Wrong Men) and France (Gelo Films).
