When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the creative side of DC in theaters, a huge wave of changes and cancellations was heralded, but it seems like it hasn’t impacted the Aquaman franchise. In an interview at the Sundance Festival, Jason Momoa talked a little bit about his character and his likely future in the DC universe.
The actor reiterated that he “loves James Gunn” and that “a lot of interesting things are being done”. And he has revealed that he will be included in more than one DC project. “There’s room for me to play different characters. I’ve seen other actors do it and I want it too!” said the actor, who joked that Ryan Reynolds is a Green Lantern and Deadpool performer.
Speculation points to Momoa possibly taking over the role of Lobo, embracing a new phase as an actor within DC in a new role. But he also said that “I’ll always be Aquaman.”
“It’s being done very well at DC, but unfortunately I can’t say anything,” the actor lamented.
The first 2018 “Aquaman” is still the highest-grossing DC film ever, surpassing the $1 billion mark. The sequel, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” hits theaters this December.
