‘Dowton Abbey: A New Era’ has once again shown that the Crawley story is still very much alive.
‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ has confirmed that life around the Crawleys still has a long way to go. Something like the English ‘Cuéntame’. For us to reach our time if necessary.
Despite the absence of Henry Talbot, the Crawleys’ French trip has once again shown us that the franchise is very much alive, with very positive reviews and a response from fans that already points to success.
That has made us speculate on a new adventure, either in Downton or in another beautiful place like the French Riviera. That is, it’s time to talk, know, gather, investigate, debate and theorize about ‘Downton Abbey 3’. No, it’s not confirmed yet, after all the second one has just been released, but given the way things are going, we wouldn’t be surprised at all. As news, theories and announced confirmations become known, they will be here.
‘Downton Abbey 3’: Release date
Yes, ‘Downton Abbey 3’ is not yet confirmed, nor has it announced a start date for filming, so it is impossible for us to say a release date. Well, what the hell, we’ve come here to play (cricket, specifically) so we’ll say that the first two installments were three years apart. However, part of the delay was due to Covid-19, so we expect this third installment, which would form a trilogy, to arrive sometime in 2024, being positive, or 2025 being somewhat more pessimistic.
‘Downton Abbey 3’: Cast
Spoilers for ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’
Obviously, the great absence will be Maggie Smith, since her character fulfilled the jokes at the end of the first film and died in this sequel. We will always have flashbacks (and Paris), but we see it as unlikely. Also time travel, but remember that ‘Doctor Who’ is another English series.
Cora is not having a good time either, but it seems that the treatment for her illness is improving, so we are waiting for Elizabeth McGovern to return, in addition to Hugh Bonneville’s Robert Crawley. There will also be Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Talbot alongside her sister Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael). Less obvious seems the return of her estranged husband, Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode).
If we go to the wider family, we also expect Samantha Bond as Lady Rosamund Painswick alongside Allen Leech’s Tom Branson and Tuppence Middleton’s Lucy Branson. There will also be, hopefully, Isobel Gray (Penelope Wilton), Richard Gray (Douglas Reith), Herbert Pelham (Harry Hadden-Paton), and Maud (Imelda Staunton).
Nor should the staff of the gentlemen be missing. Unless they do an ERTE, we expect Charles Carson (Jim Carter), Phyllis Baxter (Raquel Cassidy), Albert Mason (Paul Copley), John Bates (Brendan Coyle), Joseph Molesley (Kevin Doyle), Andy Parker (Michael Fox ), Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt), Miss Denker (Sue Johnston), Elsie Carson (Phyllis Logan), Daisy Parker (Sophie McShera), and Beryl Patmore (Lesley Nicol).
We can also expect the absence of Robert James-Collier (Thomas Barrow), who accepts Guy Dexter’s (Dominic West) job offer in the United States. Nor are some circumstantial characters from ‘A New Era’ expected to return, such as director Jack Barber (Hugh Dancy) or his actress, Myrna Dalgleish (Laura Haddock).
‘Downton Abbey 3’: Trailer and images
As with the release date, we are sorry to say that it is still too early to talk about images or a trailer for this sequel, still unconfirmed. Once the filming has started, maybe we can have some images of it. When it ends, it will be time to wait for the premiere with a teaser or trailer.
