Avatar 2: Brazilian box office surpasses first film of 2009

Avatar: The Way of the Water surpassed the box office of the first film of 2009 in Brazil. According to the newspaper The globe, Avatar 2 has already been seen by 9.5 million people in Brazilian cinemas, with a turnover of R$ 200 million.

Worldwide, the film directed by James Cameron approaches the $2 billion mark at the box office. To date, it has grossed $1.93 billion in theaters worldwide.

Nonetheless, Avatar: The Way of the Water needs to bring in at least $2 billion at the box office, according to director estimates James Cameron.

Budget

The budget calculated between US$ 350 and US$ 400 million does not represent the total cost of the feature film. As pointed out by the newspaper The globeamounts spent on publicity and marketing campaigns can reach the same level as production costs – that is, the total cost would rise to approximately US$ 800 million.

Box office

The box office revenue model does not transfer 100% of the value to the production company. In fact, 50% of the amount goes to the cinema chains responsible for showing it. In this way, for the film to pay for itself, it needs to raise twice the amount needed. In case of Avatar: The Way of the Waterthis could represent between US$ 1.6 billion and US$ 2 billion, as pointed out by Cameron.
