Lady Mary resists the attempts to win over a handsome director during her husband’s absence, but the truth is that it all stems from a scheduling problem for Matthew Goode.
‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’, the second film after the end of the famous British series about the Crawleys, is already in theaters in Spain. Of course, the fans will not miss his return to Downton, but many have already noticed a notable absence. Henry Talbot, the character played by Matthew Goode, appeared only a few minutes in the previous film, but in this one he does not even make a cameo.
The excuse for such an absence is pronounced by Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery), stating that she is traveling the world participating in car races. However, the real reason for the character’s absence is far less sophisticated and more believable. As Goode told Extra TV, everything is due to a scheduling problem: the series ‘The Offer’ has prevented him from filming, even if it was a scene, in ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’.
Recall that ‘The Offer’ is the series about the filming of ‘The Godfather’, in which Goode plays Robert Evans, head of production at Paramount at the time of the production of the legendary Coppola film. Goode came to ‘Downton Abbey’ in season five as racing driver Henry Talbot and married Lady Mary at the end of season six. In the first film, in fact, it is revealed that they had a daughter named Caroline.
Spoilers for ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’
In this sequel that couple is about to break up because Lady Mary invites a film crew to her house and the director, Jack Barber (Hugh Dancy) falls in love with Lady Mary. However, she ends up resisting, although somewhat sad that her husband loves her cars as much as she does.
