‘Vikings: Valhalla’ actor Harald dragged by a horse: ‘It was scary’

Since many of the actors in “Vikings: Valhalla” look like Vikings in real life, you’d think they wouldn’t be afraid of danger, but filming the Netflix historical drama comes with terrifying risks.

As protagonists Harald, Leig and Freydis are on the run after the fall of Kattegat in this new season, they find themselves traveling the world and encountering dangerous tribes and Vikings based on real life.

Kindness is almost never the way to resolve conflicts in “Vikings: Valhalla”, instead bloody battles take place and are accurately filmed that look very real, even leading to accidents on the set.

That’s what happened to one of the show’s stars, Leo Suter who plays Harald Sigurdsson in the Netflix series, particularly when he shoots a high-stakes scene in season two.

“Vikings: Valhalla,” actor Harald was dragged by a horse in the danger scene

One of these scenes of danger was really scary for Leo Suter, because in the sequence Harald is caught by a group of violent warriors and to test his strength and courage they tie him with ropes and pull their horses.

In a chat with Metro.co.uk on January 12, 2023, the actor from the violent Netflix series Viking confessed that this series was really scary for him despite the security measures.

“They drag (Harald) behind a horse and put a rope on him, and I had my hands there, so it’s not really on my neck. And then I have to trip and get dragged, and I have a release cord for “if I’m not having fun,” that’s my safe word. And so we did, it looks cool, but it was kind of scary.”

Apart from the fear of being dragged through the mud by a horse and rope, Leo confessed to being sore the next day, although it seemed like a good experience.

But this scene isn’t the only dangerous scene the show has behind the scenes, as Leo revealed that the fights are so intense that he broke another actor’s nose in the first season.

“Last year I broke someone’s nose, it was really bad, with a sword, which was terrifying, a really horrible, horrible experience.”

He said that in another fight scene the other actor brought his punch very close, so much so that it grazed his beard, and that because of the force and speed if he had hit him it would have caused him a lot of damage.

“If I had connected… that would have seriously hurt, so it was a close scratch.”

Set over a thousand years ago, at the beginning of the 11th century, the second season of ‘Viking: Valhalla’ is now available on Netflix and has plenty of violent and bloody scenes for fans to enjoy.
