After a mild end of the year, the cold takes over Italy

Several cities across the country recorded snow on Saturday

After ending the year with mild weather, the cold arrived in full force in Italy this Saturday (21st) and knocked down the thermometers across the country.

Several areas of the peninsula have recorded snowfall, including on the Apennine chain, where in recent weeks ski resort managers had even asked the government for help due to the lack of snow.

In Molise, last night was a nightmare for hundreds of motorists stranded on a road due to bad weather between Isernia and Campobasso.

In the latter the Christmas lights, which had not yet been dismantled, were overwhelmed by the snow and ended up on the ground.

Other places that also recorded snowfall were Norcia, Cascia, Ascoli Piceno, Monteleone di Spoleto and even the hills of Calabria, in the extreme south of Italy.

In Venice, to the north, the sluice gates of the Mose system have been activated to forecast a flood of 115 centimetres.
