Grey’s Anatomy: Meredith returns to Boston, but for how long?

Warning, this article contains spoilers for “Grey’s Anatomy” season 22. If you don’t want to understand anything, don’t read the following!

Jackson Avery is back…

The game of musical chairs continues inside Gray Sloan Memorial. While Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) decided to take time off on Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Episode 2, which aired October 16 on ABC, Jackson Avery returned to the hospital.

While his interpreter Jesse Williams left the series in 2021 at the end of season 17, he still returned for one episode in seasons 18, 19 and 21. Recall that her character headed the Kathryn Fox Foundation in Boston – an institution dedicated to Alzheimer’s disease research – before the start of the season, and not just before the start of season 21. Avery.

Moreover, the actor recently said in an interview last September in the credits of Hotel Costeria on Prime Video that anything was possible regarding a hypothetical return in season 22 of the medical program that made him famous. Episode 4 has now been completed and has just aired in the US titled Goodbye horses.

…and Meredith Gray leaves

But this return is not well received by Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), who does not approve of a report published by Dr. Koracik (Greg German) about his experiments on Alzheimer’s disease mice. She criticizes him for having only conducted tests on male subjects, which casts doubt on the relevance of his results. But Jackson brushed aside her concerns, reminding her that she hasn’t published anything of her own.

Later, the two doctors collide again with a patient who is due to undergo breast reconstruction after her cancer is cured. Jackson finally apologizes to Meredith for her childish attitude and offers to take her back to Boston. An offer she accepts! And that doesn’t surprise Richard (James Pickens Jr.), who knew as soon as he read Koracyk’s report that he was going to return to the Fox Foundation.

But how long will he be gone?

It is not yet known when Meredith Gray will return to Sloan Memorial. But on the TVLine website Speaking to showrunner Meg Marins ahead of Season 22, she suggested the character will be around a lot this new season: “He really splits his time between Boston and Seattle. But I hope we get to see him in Seattle more often. If this plan goes through, we’ll be able to see him in the operating room and interact with our characters more often.

Ellen Pompeo has decided to leave the medical series during the 19th season. However, he did not draw the final line on Grey’s Anatomy, retaining his role as an executive producer and continuing to voice the narrator. The actor also continued to appear in several episodes in subsequent seasons.

The writers explained Meredith’s absence by moving to Boston to offer her older daughter a better school environment. This change in personal life was accompanied by professional upheaval after the doctor joined Jackson Avery’s Katherine Fox Foundation to find a cure for the disease that killed his mother.

Even if Meredith gets away from Gray Sloan’s memorial for a while, it’s a safe bet she won’t be there for long…
