Rami Malek is in talks to play silent film icon Buster Keaton in a series from ‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves.
Rami Malek is in negotiations to play the legendary silent film artist Buster Keaton in a series about his life that will be directed by the person in charge of ‘The Batman’, Matt Reeves.
ted cohen (‘Succession’) has been approached to write the series and serve as executive producer. The production tries to secure the rights of ‘Buster Keaton: A Filmmaker’s Life’, the biography written by James Curtiswith the intention of using it as source material.
It seems that Malek has gotten a taste for that portray key figures of 20th century popular culture and show business. The role of him as Freddie Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ brought him his first (and so far only) Oscar for Best Actor and allowed him to finally get the Golden Globe after having been nominated up to three times previously for his leading role in the series ‘Mr. Robot’. Malek will try his luck again in the world of television playing one of the most important icons in the history of cinema, buster keatonwith ‘The driver of La General’ as his most indisputable classic and on the list of the best movies of all time.
Putting yourself in the shoes of Buster Keaton is a very difficult challenge for any actor, but Rami Malek has in his favor the great physical resemblance and, we have already been able to verify it, the talent to achieve it. What is not so clear is that today they can be replicated the acrobatics that the silent film artist performed risking his life at the beginning of the century.
However, this is not the only project in development about the movie icon. Last year it was announced that James Mangold (‘Indiana Jones 5’) was developing a Buster Keaton movie. with 20th Century Studios based on ‘Buster Keaton: Cut to the Chase’ by Marion Meade. Mangold is expected to direct and produce the film.
For his part, Malek has an upcoming premiere of ‘Oppenheimer’, by Christopher Nolanwhich will hit our screens on July 21.
