It hits theaters on December 1.
The most successful saga in the history of Spanish cinemawhose first two parts ‘Ocho apellidos vascos’ and its second part, ‘Ocho apellidos catalanes’- continue to occupy first and third position in the ranking of the highest-grossing Spanish films in history, will have its continuation with the premiere of ‘Ocho apellidos morocquís’.
On the verge of completing the tenth anniversary of the filming of ‘Ocho apellidos vascos’, the most watched and highest grossing Spanish film in history with almost 9.5 million viewers and a collection of 56 million at the box office, the public will attend the premiere alone in theaters and on the big screen of the hilarious third title of the saga, directed by Alvaro Fernandez Armero (‘If I were rich’, ‘Everything is a lie’) and with a leading cast made up of Julian Lopez (‘Operation Shrimp’, ‘Losing the North’), Michelle Jenner (saga of ‘Tadeo Jones’, ‘Isabel’ and ‘Los hombres de Paco’), Elena Irureta (‘Homeland’, ‘The Commissioner’) and Maria Ramos (‘El Cid’ and ‘A life between two waters’).
The film, which until now kept the title of ‘Casi Familia’, reunites Telecinco Cinema and LA ZONA at the helm of production together with Pris&Batty and Universal Pictures International Spain in distribution, after making history with the two predecessor films .
“The success and affection reaped by the first two films left the commitment as producers very high to bet on a third title in the ‘Ocho apellidos…’ saga. After years of work, we received a story that perfectly fulfilled the three essential elements of the DNA of ‘Ocho apellidos…’: overcoming cultural prejudices through humor, the tenderness of a romantic comedy and the presence of a certain political dimension”, he assures ghislain barroisCEO of Telecinco Cinema, on behalf of the producers.
The filming of the film has been carried out in different locations in Morocco, Cantabria and Madrid, and its director, Álvaro Fernández Armero, has defined the project as “a comedy in which culture shock is the real engine of humor, in which some conservative and prudish characters have to face a culture that they are unaware of and of which they only have unfounded prejudices. It is a film about that ignorance that makes us judge and prejudice before knowing what we are rejecting. Something from which almost none of us are exempt and which is usually easier to see in others than in oneself”.
What is it about? In this story we will meet Carmen (Elena Irureta), a woman who wants to fulfill the last wish of José María, her husband and family patriarch: to recover the ‘Sardinete’, the first fishing boat in her fleet, which is anchored in a Moroccan port. On the trip from Cantabria to Morocco, she will be accompanied by her daughter Begoña (Michelle Jenner) and her ex, Guillermo (Julián López), desperate to win back her love. Between cultural shocks, they will also discover José María’s great secret: Hamida (María Ramos), his other daughter.
It will hit theaters on December 1.
