In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever After, Angela Bassett played Queen Ramonda

With announcement of the nominees to the Oscar 2023, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed a historic feat for the films of the marvel cinematic universe (MCU): Angela Bassett became the first actress in the franchise to receive a nomination in an acting category (no actor has achieved this feat).

for the role of Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever After, bassett was recognized in Best Supporting Actressa fierce category in which it competes with Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (Inisherin’s Banshees), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere at the Same Time) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere at the Same Time).

It is worth remembering that this is not the first time that MCU was recognized in oscar. Two films were nominated for Best Visual Effects: Avengers: Infinity War (lost to The First Man) and Avengers: Endgame (defeated by 1917). Although, black Panther came out victorious in 2019 in Best Original Soundtrack, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
