In a year of groundbreaking and memorable horror films, Zach Cregger’s film Barbarian exceptional. It was safe, but it won many fans and, more importantly, it was a success. Perhaps unsurprisingly, then, his sequel is generating a lot of interest. This script, titled Weapons it has now landed on New Line.
Much of the film is a mystery by design, but second the Hollywood reporteris described as “a horror epic of several related stories that’s tonally in the vein of Magnolia“.
Several studios tried to keep the film, but New Line won because in addition to a hefty cash offer, they gave Cregger the final cut and the promise of a theatrical release.
“Zach has demonstrated with Barbarian that he can create a visceral theatrical experience for audiences and master all the tools in the director’s tool belt,” New Line president and CCO Richard Brener said in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier that he has chosen New Line as the home of his next film, and hopefully it will be the first of many to come.”
