‘That ’70s Show’ actor who didn’t return for the spin-off: the reason for his disappearance

The Netflix series “That ’90s Show” is full of ’90s references and nods to the original show, such as the appearance of Fenton, Fez’s eternal nemesis on “That ’70s Show”.

In the fan-favorite sequel, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp) are also a major part, letting their granddaughter live with them and finding themselves back in the care of a group of teenagers.

But also in the Netflix series you can see, if only for a while, the original actors of ‘That ’70 Show’ back in their roles, Topher Grace as Eric Forman and Laura Prepon in her role as Donna Pinciotti.

But there’s only one of the group of friends from ‘That ’70 Show’ who doesn’t appear in the sequel, and his name isn’t even mentioned, even though he’s one of the closest to the Formans on the show.

  • Topher Grace also acts in movie “American Ultra”, which you can watch in Spanish and for free on ViX.

Danny Masterson, the ’70s Show’ actor who did not return for the sequel

Then there are also special appearances by Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart, Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso and Wilmer Valderrama as Fez, and even Fez himself explains why he ended his relationship with Jackie.

But missing continuity is actor Danny Masterson in his role as Steven Hyde, Eric Foreman’s sarcastic best friend who spent all his time at Red and Kitty’s house (he even became a foster son).

The reason Masterson is not appearing on “That ’90s Show” is because he was arrested in June 2020 on three different counts of raping different women.

The women, who belonged to the Church of Scientology like Matherson, alleged that the actor raped them on separate occasions between 2001 and 2003. They also accused cult leader David Miscavige of a cover-up.

After posting $3.3 million bail, actor Stephen Hyde has been released on probation pending a 2022 trial that prompted Netflix to stop contacting him about “That ’90s Show.”

The trial held against Masterson ended in November 2022 with the jury unable to reach a verdict, so another trial was rescheduled for March 27, 2023.

Masterson has so far denied the charges against him and before the retrial his defense plans to propose that all charges be dropped. While in the series nothing has been mentioned about Hyde or his whereabouts.
