Usually, if your house is haunted, it’s a sign that things aren’t going to work out – call Father Merrin, Yvette Fielding, the Ghostbusters, or whoever else to fix it. But we have a ghost – the new mystery adventure comedy by Strange Yup happy death day Director Christopher Landon: The appearance of David Harbour’s undead Ernest isn’t a bad omen, but rather an opportunity to make amends (and earn internet accolades along the way). Because it turns out Ernest isn’t just a friendly ghost, but someone who can’t remember why he died or why he’s trapped in the run-down house of teenager Kevin and his family. . Well, that sounds like a nice diversion: Landon has crafted some warm characters and witty ideas to great effect in his horror fare, which seems to translate into a more family-friendly story here. Also, Harbor looks like a great cast as the lovable specter (who largely communicated in grunts), with Anthony Mackie entering the film as Frank’s father, Tig Notaro playing the sinister agent who comes to spoil the fun , And queen and slimJahi Winston plays the lead role of Kevin. Oh, and did we mention Jennifer Coolidge is here as a super haired medium? Because she is, and her relentless resurgence looks set to continue. See the poster here:

Landon wrote the screenplay himself, adapting that of Geoff Manaugh. Vicejust released, which marks a very different kind of ghost story from a filmmaker whose cinematic ghosts tended to be like that paranormal activity persuasion. Watch the film on Netflix from February 24th.
