NBA star Stephen Curry, a Golden State Warriors player widely regarded as one of the greatest shooters of all time, commented on the documentary underratedwhich tells the story of his life and career.
During the Sundance Film Festival, the film was screened and Stephen Curry spoke to reporters about what it feels like to watch the final version of the documentary underrated. “I had seen an earlier version of it,” Curry told Variety on the festival’s red carpet. “But to see everything we put into this movie – the memories and experiences I’ve had in my life, but also Davidson and my journey there – sitting in my house watching it on a big screen, alone with a bowl of popcorn and a good drink in hand, it was a roller coaster of emotions.
He continued, “Traveling down memory lane, hearing the stories and how the film connects through everyone’s points of view, touches every emotion. It’s more than just sports fans, basketball fans, it goes further. I’m very proud of it.”
Curry and Erick Peyton, who is the creative director of the production company Unanimous Media, approached Ryan Coogler, Peter Nicks and the Proximity team with the idea of a documentary. underrated chronicles Curry’s rise to prominence as Davidson College made an unprecedented run during the college basketball playoffs known as March Madness in 2008, which the filmmakers juxtapose with the Warriors’ unlikely path to the NBA championship during the 2021 season -2022. The film kicks off the company’s first contract with A24 and will premiere on Apple TV+.
“I hope I can inspire not only through a film like underratedbut an opportunity to be in front of the camera in some way, to shape or expand that skill set,” said Stephen Curry when asked about his dream role. “I feel like I can tick that box and do something really cool – maybe have a comedy angle, I feel like my world is there. Hopefully it won’t be long before we see it.”
Additionally, he commented on the possibility of appearing in an upcoming film in the franchise. black Panther, as he now has a partnership with Ryan Coogler, director of this Marvel film series. “You said it, not me,” Curry laughed when Variety suggested it.
Elsewhere, responding to a question from Kolby Mac, host of the Minorities Report podcast, he offered a little more on the subject. “If we can shoot in the summer and find me a good role in that universe — absolutely,” Curry replied as the crowd laughed. “Press and we’ll see what it says.”
Stephen Curry’s mother Sonya also spoke about the film. “I’m really nervous,” she admitted. “They’ve come and interviewed us in so many different situations, so I’m concerned about that because I can say things and I don’t know what they captured. But I’m actually really excited for the world to actually see Stephen. Like, there’s been so many other interviews, but you’ll see Stephen, you’ll see Davidson, people who haven’t really been seen.
