You can download photos and videos sent or received by DM on Instagram. The feature is native to the platform and easy to use; to watch
Direct Messages (DM) from Instagram it is a private space where two or more people can exchange messages. Besides sharing, you can also download photos and videos sent or received in DM.
Even if the platform allows downloading, it is not possible to select multiple images and videos to download at the same time. Also, forwarded content cannot be saved to the device.
How to download photos sent by DM on Instagram
Unlike the mobile phone, the browser version does not have a native download function. However, it is possible to work around this and download the photos; check out how to perform the action in both cases.
cellular
- Open the Instagram app (android | iOS) and log in to your account;
- Tap the DM icon in the upper right corner;
- Enter the conversation where the image you want to download is located;
- Touch and hold the image until a few options appear at the bottom of the screen;
- Go to “More” and then tap “Save”;
- If the other user uploaded the image, tap and hold until the “Save” option appears at the bottom of the screen.

Computer
- Access the Instagram website (instagram.com) and log in to your account;
- Select “Messages” from the side menu;
- Enter the conversation where the media file you want to download is located;
- Click on the photo to open it in full screen;
- Right-click and choose “Save Image As…”;
- Choose the folder where to save to finalize.

How to download DM sent videos on Instagram
The browser version does not support downloading videos, so you can only download this type of media via the app.
- Open the conversation the video is in;
- Touch and hold until some options appear at the bottom of the screen;
- Tap “More,” then select “Save.”
