The ’90s Show had plenty of references to the ’90s (and some plot inconsistencies), but it also featured the return of the original cast of ‘That ’70s Show.’
However, not everyone returned. For example, Danny Masterson (who played Steven Hyde) took a leave of absence because he is facing three counts of sexual assault.
Fans also noticed the absence of the character of Laurie Forman, who in the seventies series was played by two actresses: Lisa Robin Kelly and Christina Moore.
Laurie Forman’s ‘That’70s Show’ Controversies
On “That ’70 Show,” Eric Forman (Topher Grace, who can be seen on “American Ultra on ViX+, ViX’s premium streaming service) had an older sister, Laurie. She was a beautiful young blonde who was involved with different men during the show’s plot.
The character recurred throughout the series and was largely played by actress Lisa Robin Kelly. However, in the third season it was canceled because the artist was going through various personal problems.
Laurie returned in season five and fans thought he would stay that way. However, Lisa Robin was struggling with her alcohol addiction and was forced to leave the series again.
Faced with this problem, those in charge of the program decided to do a new casting for the character (something similar to when they tried to replace Eric Forman on “That ’70s Show”). Then came Christina Moore.
However, this replacement did not go down well with the fans, and so the decision was made to permanently cut Laurie Forman from the series.
It was explained that she had moved to Canada and she continued to be referenced, but as a result her character never appeared on screen again.
Why doesn’t Laurie Forman appear on ‘That’90s Show’?
In “That ’90s Show” much of the cast from “That ’70s Show” returned. Even Fenton, the eternal enemy of Fez, showed up.
But Laurie Forman did not come out, because unfortunately Lisa Robin Kelly (the first actress who played her and the most recognized by fans) died in 2013, as a result of multiple poisoning. The actress was admitted to a rehabilitation center in California when she sadly passed away.
For this reason, and possibly because fans did not accept Christina Moore as Laurie Forman, this beloved character did not appear in the Netflix spin-off.
We only got to see a small mention of her, because in one of the episodes of ‘That ’90s Show’ Red says that he only wanted to have a child (as a reference to Laurie), but that Kitty convinced him to have Eric.
