New category offers rides at least 30% cheaper than 99Pop, ensuring greater urban mobility for all

99Moto starts this Tuesday, January 31, the motorcycle travel brokerage service for passengers in the cities of São Paulo, including Greater São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro, in all its regions.

With this novelty, 99 expands its offer of intermediation services in the metropolis, reinforcing its strategy of doubling its bet on the two-wheeler sector and its commitment to make the daily life of Brazilians a little easier and better with solutions technology and mobility.

Present in more than 3,000 municipalities, the category offers a mobility alternative for daily commutes with even more inclusive prices, being at least 30% cheaper than 99Pop, a car transport option.

Another differential of the service is the flexibility of accessing places such as narrow streets that are not served safely by other vehicles. Furthermore, it can be used as a complement to public transport, on “last mile” routes.

The national census data, combined with travel information from 99, show that there is an advance in the reach of the platform outside the central areas, in the large cities of the country. In Rio de Janeiro, 7 out of 10 trips are to suburban neighborhoods. In São Paulo, more than half of travel takes place in areas outside the enlarged centre.

With 99Moto, 99 expands its capacity to operate in these regions and now offers the population, which already uses this means of transport extensively, the possibility of making travel even safer through a solid platform that understands the needs of Brazilians.

Positive impact on the entire ecosystem

“For more than 10 years, 99 has worked to democratize mobility in Brazil through technology. According to data from the Economic Research Institute Foundation (Fipe), from 2012 to 2022, the 99 indirectly injected R54.2 billion＄ into the Brazilian GDP.

Safety is one of 99Moto’s differentials

The category, already used by 1.3 million people, has various tools that guarantee greater safety for those who use the platform, whether they are partner motorcyclists or passengers, which means that, to date, 99.99% of rides it ended without incident. In addition, 99 offers accident insurance, valid from the start to the end of the race, for motorcyclists and passengers.

In all, 99Moto has more than 50 safety systems. These are systems such as the control and validation of personal data and a 24-hour call center capable of providing any type of support.

99Moto also has features already present in other 99 categories such as facial recognition of all partner riders, real-time ride tracking, route sharing and an emergency button to call the police.

The use of the helmet during the race is mandatory for all users. In addition, partner bikers receive periodic educational content, such as explanations of the highway code and defensive riding.

To use the new service, the user just needs to access the 99 application and select the 99Moto category when requesting the ride.

Moto by app can you?

Yes. The private mode of transport of motorcycles and its intermediation through applications are legal activities, according to the Federal Law No. 13,640. By law, the service can be performed both by car and by motorbike, the type of vehicle not being specified. Furthermore, the regulation of passenger transport is exclusive to the Union and it is not up to the municipalities to prohibit it.

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) already ruled in 2019 that it cannot be prohibited, as it is a legitimate activity, carried out on one’s own initiative and authorized by the Constitution. Furthermore, the motorbike via app is an extremely important means for the continuous democratization of mobility in peripheral areas.
