Andrew Garfield Reveals Tactics He Used to Land Spider-Man Role

As a protagonist, Andrew Garfield acted in both The Amazing Spider-Man films, but reprized the role in 2021

Even with participation in movies from the Spider man which were public and critical failures, the performance of Andrew Garfield as Peter parker is quite celebrated among fans, especially after special participation in Spider-Man: Never Go Home (2021). Now, the actor has revealed the tactic he used to get the role of Friend from the Neighborhood.

During an interview with Marvel available on the official website of the iconic comic book publisher, garfield remembered when he had to take a test to The spectacular Spider Man (2012), in which he would play one of his favorite heroes as a child.

“When I had the chance to audition, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to fulfill a weird version of a childhood dream?’ So, of course, I auditioned and I didn’t really think about it too much in terms of whether I got it or not,” he said in the conversation. “Then they asked me to do a screen test and I suddenly thought, ‘This could happen. This could change my life.'”

Obviously, that created a conflict in the sense of, ‘Do I want to be as recognizable? Do I want to take on that responsibility?’ But of course I wanted to! You have to take big risks.

As I was nervous about the test, Andrew Garfield thought of a way that might help him succeed at the audition: “Because I was so nervous and wanted so badly, I figured out a way to screen test. I gave myself an acting fit, I suppose, which was something like: you’re 15 years old and you’re making a short film about Spider man with friends.”

So, the actor was able to stay calm by imagining a friendlier environment. “The whole team is friendly. There’s no pressure. You can make up as you go, and it’s about the joy of being that character,” he recalled.

I managed to trick my ego and convince the part of me that is pressuring me that it wasn’t necessary and that we were just going to have fun.
