Nearly half of employees want to change jobs in 2023

And again: 49% of companies indicate they plan to hire new hires in the first quarter of the year, says the study

The beginning of each year encourages reflection and motivates people to rethink their priorities for the new cycle ahead. More willing to take risks, skilled professionals are open to new possibilities: 49% of employees even intend to look for another job in 2023. The confidence of professionals reflects market conditions.

According to the latest edition of the Robert Half Confidence Index (ICRH), the unemployment rate of skilled people, people aged 25 and older with a high school education, was 4.0% in the third quarter of 2022. The general unemployment rate, which includes this professional category, was 8.7% in the same period. Both rates are the lowest since 2015, reinforcing the labor market recovery.

It is evident that the world is witnessing an important movement of professionals looking for opportunities more in line with their profile and moment of life. When asked about their goals for the change, 61% indicated that they intend to change companies but stay in the same area, while 39% said they are interested in a new business area, segment or profession.

“The increasingly low unemployment rates are bringing us closer to what we can define as a ‘applicants’ market’, in which they are the protagonists of employment relationships. Priorities have changed in recent years and we can see its reflection in this desire for a professional movement. People are the main asset of an organization and, given the positive indicators, I recommend managers not to exploit only their best talents in the imminence of losing them”, defends Fernando Mantovani, general manager of Robert Half for South America South.

Aspects that attract professionals

According to the 22nd edition of ICRH, the top five aspects that most attract professionals in the current company are: remuneration, benefits package, growth opportunities, possibility of personal and professional life balance, and good relationships with colleagues and peers.

Mantovani underlines that, to remain attractive and competitive in this scenario, the challenge is daily and companies must invest in clear labor policies, leadership transparency, as well as good benefits and salary packages, consistent with the averages practiced by the market. which can be consulted on Robert Half Salary Guide 2023.

Analyzing another clipping, it is possible to evaluate that the sentiment of optimism also concerns unemployed professionals. Among the reasons, 68% intend to open new jobs, 55% want to fill vacancies and 35% will have to hire to replace professionals.

“Therefore, the moment is promising for candidates aware of the new needs of companies, who in this context of competition for good talent must take a strategic look and plan now to secure a top-level team in 2023”, concludes the general manager by Robert Half.
