‘Mummies’: Exclusive clip of the new film from the creators of Tadeo Jones

Ancient Egypt continues to captivate and fascinate the world of cinema. This year we have a new proposal for the whole family: ‘Momias’, one of the Spanish films we are most looking forward to in 2023. This animated feature film is the new creation of the producer and writers of ‘The Adventures of Tadeo Jones’ and ‘Capture the Flag’, two of the jewels of the world of animation in Spain.

This new adventure takes us to Egypt: in the bowels of the earth there is a 3,000-year-old city of mummies, where by imperial mandate, Princess Nefer must marry Thut, a former charioteer. Neither of them is for the job of getting married. However, the wishes of the Pharaoh are inescapable, so both will have to get married in seven days and, above all, bring intact to the wedding the ring that the Pharaoh has given to Thut.

Meanwhile, on the surface of the earth, Lord Carnaby carries out an archaeological expedition in which, for the first time, he finds something relevant: an Egyptian tomb containing a wedding ring. This is his chance to go down in history. But the problem is that this treasure already has an owner… When Thut discovers that the ring has been stolen, he has no choice but to go up to the human world and infiltrate the city of London. On the trip he will be accompanied by his 12-year-old brother, Sekhem, and Croc, his pet crocodile, as well as Nefer. Together, the three mummies will have to navigate the big city to recover the ring that Lord Carnaby has taken from them.

In the clip that we present to you exclusively at FOTOGRAMAS, we see the young Sekhem and his skills for throwing the boomerang. However, his great launch will “intersect” with the flight of the phoenix, whose glide is being followed by the pharaoh. It seems that the poor bird ends up by accident where it shouldn’t have… What consequences will this mishap have?

‘Mummy’ is a family adventure comedy directed by Juan Jesus Garcia Galocha. The film is his directorial debut after having been in charge of art direction in works such as ‘Tadeo Jones 2: the secret of King Midas’ (2017) or the short ‘Cuerdas’, from 2013 and directed by Pedro Solís, which won the Goya for Best Animated Short. Solís is also behind this new project as director of the film’s animation studio, Core Animation.

The script has been written by Jordi Gasull and Javier Barreira, winners of a Goya for Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘The Adventures of Tadeo Jones’ (which also won the Goya for Best Animated Film, as well as the Best New Director award for Enrique Gato). Jordi Gasull, in charge of animated films such as ‘The Adventures of Tadeo Jones’, ‘Capture the Flag’ and ‘Tadeo Jones 2: The Secret of King Midas’, is also a producer of this new film.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents this production by 4Cats Pictures SL, Anangu Grup SLU and Moomios Movie AIE, with the collaboration of Atresmedia Cine and with the participation of MOVISTAR+ and the collaboration of TV3.

On February 24 ‘Mummy’ will hit theaters.
