“Bad Boys”: Almost 30 years after its release, the franchise will have a fourth film

Actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence announced, this Tuesday (31st), the production of ‘Bad Boys 4’, continuing the popular franchise that started in 1995 and which had its last film so far – ‘Bad Boys For Life’ – released in 2020.

In addition to the duo, Sony Pictures also confirmed that the film – still without an official name – is at the beginning of its pre-production, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah again directing. The screenplay was written by Chris Bremner.

Despite this Tuesday’s official announcement, Sony had already confirmed, in 2020 and before “Bad Boys Forever” hit theaters, that “Bad Boys 4” was already in production. The third film in the franchise achieved $426.5 million at the worldwide box office, being one of the last box office champions before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new chapter of the saga will also have the production of Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad, Chad Oman. James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone will serve as executive producers.

Film still standing even after slapping Chris Rock

In July, Lawrence confirmed to Ebony magazine that, even after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards, Bad Boys 4 would remain in development. “We’re going to have at least one more,” Lawrence said, hinting that the action franchise could extend beyond the fourth installment.

The first “Bad Boys,” released in 1995, grossed $141 million worldwide, while “Bad Boys 2,” in 2003, earned $273 million at the box office.
