‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ actress defends Captain Marvel: says audience is sexist

The cast of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ has changed a lot 25 years after it premiered. Despite the time, his actors continue to give something to talk about.

Such is the case of Sarah Michelle Gellar, who in recent days has placed herself in the problem of sexism that permeates today’s superheroines.

The ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ actress has defended Captain Marvel

In the 90s, Sarah Michelle Gellar played one of the great heroines of her time: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who faced the threat of these creatures.

However, the series ended in 2003 after airing 7 seasons and 144 chapters. After that, other female figures started occupying the screens.

Among them stand out the superheroines who have shone in companies such as Marvel or DC. However, in an interview with The Guardian, Sarah Michelle Gellar expressed that she has noticed something different about these characters.

She couldn’t help but realize that sexism is a deciding factor when it comes to a successful superhero movie or show, as was the case with Captain Marvel:

“Gender is where women can really succeed and hold an audience. Every time a Marvel movie tries to have a female cast, it just fails…Unfortunately, the audience didn’t accept it. There’s still that mentality.” superhero”. This very retrograde way of thinking.

Clear examples that illustrate the statements are some of the latest Marvel movies and series, such as “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” “Ms. Marvel,” because even the Russo brothers responded to Marvel’s Phase 4 criticism.

In that sense, there’s no doubt that Sarah Michelle Gellar is still a feminist icon, just as she was when she played “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” She continues to use her platforms to speak out about gender inequalities in the entertainment industry.

Will Sarah Michelle Gellar return to play ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’?

After addressing the issue of existing sexism in superhero productions, the actress was asked in the same interview with The Guardian about the possibility of returning to play her iconic ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ character.

However, the actress ruled it out, preferring to give someone else the chance to start from scratch:

“I’m very happy with what I’ve delivered. Even if I did a cameo, it would only compare. You want to give someone a chance to create from the ground up.”

And you, what do you think about the statements of the actress of ‘Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’? Do you agree? Tell us in the comments.
