DC Studios announces new cinematic era with 10 productions

Divided into Chapters, New DC Comics Cinematic Universe Includes Supergirl Solo Film and Wonder Woman Prequel

James Gunn It is Peter Safranthe filmmakers responsible for dc studiosannounced this Tuesday, January 31, the first 10 productions of the new universe of dc comics (DCU).

Divided into chapters, the new cinematographic universe of dc comics starts with the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, already interconnecting the planned films and series. For the restart of the DCU, Gunn It is Sanfran stipulate a period of eight to ten years for the Chapter 1.

In addition, actors present in the new era will have to sign a decade-long contract for film and TV appearances. New productions represent half of the content of the Chapter One. Check below the 10 productions of the DC Universe (DCU), out of chronological order:

1. Creature Commandos (TV Series)

Command of the Creatures will be an animated series HBO Maxwhich will have seven episodes in total, all signed by James Gunn. Inspired by the comic that introduced vampires, zombies and werewolves to the DC Universe (DCU), the most interesting detail of the project is that the animation will give rise to a live-action, which will then return to animation.

The back-and-forth dynamics between media could be replicated with other animation projects in the future, he said. Gunn. In addition, the idea is that the cast of voice actors will also be part of the cast of the live-action.

Characters already known as Doninha, from the new Suicide Squad, will be present among new characters, such as Bride of Frankenstein, the protagonist of the project. The other confirmed characters are: Rick Flag Sr., Nina Mazursky, Dr. Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein and GI Robot.

2. Superman Legacy (Movie)

Entitled Superman Legacy, the new feature will not be an origin story. “[O filme] focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing,” Safran described. “He embodies Truth, Justice and the American Way. He is goodness in a world that considers it old-fashioned.”

One of the few projects with a definite date, Superman Legacy premieres on July 11, 2025.

3. Lanterns (TV Series)

One of the most anticipated projects by fans, the series of Green Lanterns will finally come out of paper. Following the lines of True Detective, with Hal Jordan and John Stewart dealing with mystery here on Earth, “[a produção] plays an important role within the great story we are telling in our films and series”, pointed out safran.

4. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (Movie)

Adapted from HQ Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow (2021), signed by tom king and with Brazilian arts Bilquis Evely, supergirl will also gain a space in the new cinematographic era of dc studios.

But second Gunn, the character may be “a very different type” of what fans are expecting. “In our DCU, we see the difference between Superman, sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from infancy, and Supergirl, raised on a hunk of Kryptonian rock and watched everyone around her die or be murdered within the first 14 years. of your life”.

5. Paradise Lost (TV Series)

While the fate of Wonder Woman 3 seems uncertain, the city of Themyscira, home of the Amazons and birthplace of the superheroine, will be explored in paradise lost. Focused on the creation and politics of female society, the series will take place before the birth of Dianaformerly interpreted by Gal Gadot.

The title of the production may suggest a free adaptation of the comics Paradise Island Lostin Phil Jimenez and George Perez, which depicted a civil war on Themiscyra. It is worth noting, however, that neither Gunn or safran mentioned the comics in the ad.

6. The Brave and the Bold (Movie)

Apart from the director’s Batman universe Matt Reeves — which, it’s worth noting, is outside of the timeline and follows apart from the DCU chapters — the studios will adapt the comics from Grant Morrison. Entitled The Brave and the Boldthe film will introduce Damian Wayne, son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul.

In the plot, Batman did not know of Damian’s existence for almost a decade of his life and, therefore, The Brave and the Bold is a “very strange story between father and son”, he pointed out. Gunn. The production is still in development, and the search for the actor for the role of the hero is ongoing.

7. Swamp Thing (Movie)

More details on the dark origin of the Swamp monster will also be shown in the new cinematic era. However, the production moves towards the horror genre, “but we will also see the Swamp monster interacting with other characters,” explained Gunn.

8. Waller (TV Series)

The derivative focused on Amanda Waller remains in the plans of the DCU, confirming the return of the actress Viola Davis to the paper. The series will be released in the gap between the first and second seasons of Peacemaker (2022), and will feature the same actors for Waller.

9. The Authority (Movie)

O DC Universe will incorporate characters from the Wildstorm label in the film The Authoritybased on the comics by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch from the late 1990s. Unlike figures like Superman, these are characters willing to get the job done no matter what the means necessary.

“The DCU won’t just be the story of heroes and villains, and not every movie and show will be about the good guy versus the bad guy,” he explained. Gunn. “[…] There is [também] anti-heroes and very questionable people like The Authoritywho basically believe that you can’t fix the world the easy way, and take matters into their own hands”.

10. Booster Gold (TV Series)

Adored among comic book fans, the Golden Booster will have its story told for the first time in the DC Universe (DCU), and the project promises to be the stand-up comedy of the studios’ new era of cinema. In comics, Mike Carter is a former 25th century football star who uses a time machine on display at the Space Museum in Metropolis.

According to Safran, the production accompanies “a loser from the future who uses basic technologies from the future to go back to the present and pretend to be a superhero, imposter syndrome as a superhero”.
