Since last year you are one of the new faces of Si Grand Soleil. How was your arrival in the series? Did you know that your character had to become repetitive during casting?
Sophie Le Tellier: Not at all. We met Thomas de Matisse (Series Producer, Editor’s Note) Several times on other projects and he wanted me to be part of the Un Si Grand Soleil adventure. And he is the one who speaks: be it months or years after he promises us something, he does it. So he offered me to take part in this adventure, but I had no idea what would happen to this character.
I did not know if anyone was sunny, beautiful or dark … the only element I had was that he was the one we wanted to slowly bring into the series so that viewers could get used to him, eventually riding, and I knew he was going to develop me, but I did not know in which direction. It is true that we ourselves discover the evolution of our characters when we write and often play so that we do not know how they will become as in real life! (Laughs)
It is true that when we find her during her first scenes in Helen Hospital, she seems quite lonely, completely devoted to her work … It seems difficult to define her.
We know nothing and neither do I! It is true that at first it was not easy to build a character, I was interested in him … Then I told myself that I was going to lead myself and I brought what seemed fair and consistent. I did not project anything because I did not know the characteristics of this character.
And at the same time, I find it very playful, it’s the versatile side of the characters that we embody. I find it very interesting to play such characters, a little poor, cloudy, dark … for an actor it’s more fun than a nice sleek character. I also like to play with characters who are far away from me: very strict, self-confident, decisive … I always try to add a touch of humanity to them and redeem them.
Ellen has a somewhat uncontrollable temperament where she herself does not understand what is happening to her. In the coming weeks, you will witness moments of real agitation where Helen’s hysteria will ensue. There were lots of games behind this character’s madness. It was very fun to show the disturbing moments, very dark, then sunny, funny … I was really able to have fun with this character.
When Helen begins to become obsessed with Claire, interfering in her life and committing a crime, what do you say to yourself about her motives?
In Helen’s head she acts for Claire. For example, he attacks Janet directly because Claire works too hard and Janet puts pressure on her. The only solution that Ellen finds for relaxation is to do harm to the elder … Everything she does is under the guise of “doing good.”
To go too far, especially when Claire is taking Senso drug and Helen decides to hospitalize her toxicological consequences …
Goes too far. After hitting GHB, Helen is going to do the barge! He was completely turned upside down in that moment, the character turned into a real madness. He got rid of all this. There is a distortion of reality and he finds himself in a kind of spiral doing what he does without realizing it. This made me even happier because I could do things that were quite bombastic, even extreme, under the guise of madness.
Also, the strength of the serials is to offer a complex and original “crime” …
Oh, they hate me! I get very angry with people.(Laughs) But it does not affect me, on the contrary, it fascinates and makes the game more ridiculous. We Melanie had a laugh with Maudran, even in scenes that were sometimes a bit difficult to shoot and not at all funny … I love it! I like to work calmly and in a good mood.
It is very nice to work on this series, the organization is incredible: there are four scenes a day, four directors a day, countless technicians, actors … and despite everything, we are treated really kindly. I am very happy to be a part of this adventure. Maybe in six months my character will be gone, but in the meantime I enjoy what is happening day by day and I am very happy.
Where can you see the following, other than Un Si Grand Soleil?
Also, for three seasons, I’m in another series, Alexandra Ele, where we get a few 90-minute episodes every year and only get two at a time. I am also doing an episode of Les Petits Meurtres d’Agatha Christie and starring in the TV series Le Voyageur in which I play a small role. My weeks are a bit busy right now … I spend my life on the trains! But I see how difficult it is for the friends around me, so I do not complain about doing the job. I also know that the wheel spins, so I enjoy it as long as it lasts.
