Platonic on OCS: How Much Does a Romantic Comedy Cost for a Modern Relationship?

Dissatisfied with the couple, Ian and Elsa leave their spouses to settle down in friendship, of course … At the age of 35, the 2 best friends find themselves in the neighborhood. Nice back? Yes, even for a week. Because of the weird weeks… their kids are coming. Between marriage and family friendship, Ian and Elsa hope to find the perfect balance. But can we really be family with friends?

Platonic, 5 May at 20:40 OCS – 10 x 22 minutes

(Felicity) and (Seen in Les Magnétiques and Une Femme du monde) make these remade friendsUnder the cheerful eyes of their friends, they play Alison Shasan (Derby Girl, HashtagBoomer) and comedian Edgar-Yves Mono. As for their exes, they encamped at Baptist Lekaplen (Pichi, Rebecca) and Josephine de Meo (Les Petits flocons).

If OCS manages to offer a real-generation drama in 2021 at Jeune et golri by its creator and translator Agnes Hurstel, this new proposal will look very slow despite its promising topic.

By choosing to show two longtime friends leaving their spouses and moving together whimsy, Platonic questions the couple’s reasons for being vital – co-existence, communication – and its difficulties: children, commitment, the passage of time. .

Clearly, the combined friendship of the two characters is obvious, and the difficulties of acclimatizing to the beginnings of their cohabitation will quickly give way to a more mature and stable relationship … to the point that it will eventually fall into each other’s arms. Other?

Without revealing much, the series finds its tone and some charm in the episodes written and directed by Camille Rossetti (Iresponsable and HP, co-writers of two other comedies OCS) and Eli Girard, the director who follows Cesar’s award. This year for his short film Les Mauvais Garçons.

Light Dramedia by touch mumblecore (An American independent film movement characterized by low-budget films that often deal with thirty-something characters and their relationships.) The series sometimes turns out to be funny thanks to the murder of its supporting roles – Earthly Baptist Lekaplen in the lead role – but also rough and direct sex and dexterity in his discourse.

Imagine love and relationships that aim to be firmly modern but lack real breathing and, above all, rhythm, stretch their tone too long. As for the diversity around parenting and sex life, they lack the true grain of madness and, if that did not happen, the originality.

As for the two main performers, as pleasant as it is, it is difficult to cling to them because they are bordered by the clichés of the “bad mother” (Elsa is far from a child, unable to cling to love and unite partners). And a defeated husband who feels bad (Ian is unable to establish himself in his partner and has never reached orgasm).

The inversion of gender stereotypes followed quite awkwardly, fortunately, coincided with the gentle development of the characters in the episodes.
