Dr. Strange’s second solo adventure in cinemas yesterday will introduce new superheroes to the world of Marvel: the Illuminati. We appreciate the super-team well known to comic book readers.
Warning – The article below contains Doctor Strange 2 spoilers and discusses some of its surprises. I strongly recommend you go your own way if you have not seen the movie yet.
Were the rumors true? In recent months, many Marvel characters have been at the center of rumors claiming they were Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, including the Illuminati team that was very teased in the latest trailers.
In another world
And a secret gathering of powerful superheroes from different parts of the Marvel universe is presented in the movie, with a few extra bonuses on the casting side! However, this alliance was formed not on the earth where the Avengers are already evolving, but on another earth in the multi-world that Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) visits in the film.
The existence of the Illuminati in the comics was revealed in Volume 7 New AvengersPublished in 2005. The Assembly’s call is not so much to fight together, but to coordinate the actions of their various teams.
Its members are 6 numbers: Iron Man, Mr Fantastic, Namor, Black Arrow, Doctor Strange and Professor Xavier, respectively, represent the type of avengers, scientific heroes, characters perceived as anti-heroes, non-humans, mystical heroes and mutants.
Different members
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness group has changed a bit since Iron Man (Tom Cruise turned down the role if he wasn’t even invited? The mystery remains unexplained) and Namor is lost, replacing the other MCU characters.
This is Captain Carter, who has already been seen in the animated series What If and is still played by Haley Etwell, but also Captain Marvel in the form of Lasha Lynch (who played Maria Rambo, Carol Denvers’s best friend in Captain Marvel). The two characters were shown in the last TV movie of the movie.
The trailer did not lie either: the X-Men leader is still there under Patrick Stewart’s cover to delight fans! The Black Arrow is also in the game, camped by Anson Mount, who has already played him in the series Inhumans. Wonderful applause for the Marvel show, which lasted only a short season of 8 episodes.

Anson Mount in the TV series Inhumans.
But the biggest “surprise” is the translator of Mr. Fiction, who is none other than John Krasinski! Fans have been campaigning for such castings for years and they finally got their way. In 2020The actor himself assured that he was very happy to swim in the skin of the leader of 4 Fantastic, but it was all still in the state of speculation.
Finally, Stephen Strange is not even a mystical type of character in this assembly, but Mordecai (Chivetel Ejiofor, who already plays the first Dr. Strange).
The role of the team in the film
Dr. Strange In the many worlds of madness, the Illuminati were created on Earth 838 to deal with the world’s greatest threats. So they are the ones who defeated Thanos, but they were also condemned to death for their Strange for using Darold’s evil forces, a very powerful and distorted magic book, at the center of Sam Rhyme’s film story.
The fate of the members of this team is sadly fateful in this world. But who knows, maybe we will see actors in shoes of other variants of these characters in future Marvel productions? Dr. Strange can also borrow their idea and set up his own Illuminati board on his own earth… a case to follow!
