Already this week we’ve received reports of a Broadway show getting the big screen treatment, most notably Bob Dylan’s jukebox musical. Northern country girl. Now, keeping everything perfectly balanced (as everything should be), we have news of a musical film preparing to hit the stage. and this movie is Earth! Wait… wait… wait… we learn it’s good Moonlight! just kidding, it actually is Earth.
The stage adaptation of Damien Chazelle’s six-time Academy Award-winning global hit about an aspiring actress and jazz musician who follows her dreams and falls in love in Los Angeles will be directed by a real Star City. Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher will direct the play, based on a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar and three-time Barrymore Prize winner Matthew Decker. The film’s Oscar-winning original composer Justin Hurwitz will return to provide the music, as will its Oscar- and Tony-winning lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
“I am delighted to meet Lionsgate and the fantastic team behind it Earth adapting the film for the Broadway stage, the next exciting chapter in its evolution,” said entertainment and film producer Marc Platt announcing the musical. “We have assembled a world-class team to create a musical that will delight Earthmillions of current fans and introduces the property to a whole new audience.
Maybe if all goes well when Earth eventually reaching Broadway, it may be the first in a series of Chazelle plays. Whip at the National Theater! first man on ice! Babylon! Now, that would be an immersive theater experience that you won’t soon forget. Basy isn’t first in line when the elephant arrives!
