Gillian Anderson will play newscaster Emily Maitlis in the new Netflix film about the BBC’s controversial interview with Prince Andrew of England.
The program Newsnight of 2019 will see its film version under the title, ‘SCOOP’, and will focus on the women who made possible the interview.
Rufus Sewell will play the prince andrew, keeley hawes be Amanda Trisk and Billy Piper will give life to sam mcalisterthe production company that secured the event.
As can be seen in the synopsis, ‘SCOOP’ will continue “the inner journey of the women who delved into the Buckingham Palace institution to achieve the scoop of the decade, which led to the catastrophic downfall of the Queen’s ‘favourite son’.“
“From how to get around the vetoes of the Palace to how to make your way into the inner circle of Prince Andrewthrough the high-stakes negotiations and the intensity of the rehearsals, to the interview itself.”
“‘SCOOP’ is an account of the ins and outs of Palacio and the BBCtwo bastions of establishment British, which highlights the tenacity and the guts of the journalists who broke the highest ceilings and entered the sanctuary and the calculations of a man with everything to lose“.
The interview, which scrutinized Prince Andrew in detail, was conducted by Maitlis from the reports that linked him to Jeffrey Epstein and the accusations against him by Virginia Giuffre.
The negative reception and great criticism that aroused his comments in the interview, caused the departure of the Duke of York from public life.
The film is based on the memories of the former producer of Newsnight: ‘Scoop: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Controversial Interviews’. Philip Martin will lead the project.

‘SCOOP’ is in the production process and will be released on Netflix.
