After the events of ‘You’ Season 3, Joe will have a new obsession and will also reverse his roles as an assassin to become a detective and solve murders in his new group of friends.
The new season presents the events of the third after Love (Victoria Pedretti) murders Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) wife, burns down their house and escapes to Europe in search of Marienne (Tati Gabrielle).
But with what has been seen in the fourth season of the series based on Sarah Pinborough’s novel, the continent change has created doubts and even inconsistencies with the end of season 3. Here are some that need to be resolved.
“You” season 4: why does Joe leave Paris?
At the end of You season 3 on Netflix it was revealed that Joe didn’t die in a house fire and actually went to Paris, following Marien, a bookstore worker with whom he fell in love.
However, season four will be set in London, England, not France, so it’s unclear what prompted Joe to leave Paris after finding Marianne.
While it’s possible he only found Marianne in France and followed her across Europe from there, showing them meeting in Paris just raises more doubts than season four taking place in London.

‘You’ season 4: Joe’s new identity and its explanation
What’s even more incredible about Joe leaving Paris to live in London is that he now has another identity as a university professor.
When Joe searches for Marianne in France, he does so under the guise of Nick, but for the new season, in London, they have the alias of Jonathan Moore, a literature professor.
“You,” season 4: the fate of Joe’s brother
In the third season of the Netflix series Through Memories it was revealed that Joe found his mother, but found out that she had a new son and wanted to move on with his life without him.
An online theory has suggested that the new killer who knows about Joe’s crimes, and who kills his socialite and privileged friends, is actually his half-brother.
This could explain what happened to Joe’s mother and why the killer, despite being very obsessed, has never mentioned her again. If Joe killed his mother after being rejected, his brother may be seeking revenge.
‘You’ Season 4: What About Henry, Joe’s Son?
During “You” Season 3, Joe’s fatherly aspect could be seen taking care of little baby Henry. Although the killer does not stop his crimes, his love and concern for the little boy is visible.
Joe drops his son off at Dante and Lansing’s house. While the baby will be best kept away from Joe, it’s hard to believe that it won’t be mentioned again or appear later in the series.
Henry’s fate is one of the biggest questions that Season 4 has to resolve, as the baby was an important part of the show and served to bring out a more human side of Joe.
‘You’ season 4: what happened to Ellie Alvez (Jenna Ortega)?
Before becoming world famous for her role as “Wednesday” also on Netflix, Jenna Ortega appeared in the second season of “You” as Ellie Alvez, a young woman who Joe has a crush on.
Joe’s wife murders Ellie’s sister, but Joe saves Ellie and manages to get her to safety. Season 3 clarifies that Jo knows where Ellie lives and even sends her money to support her.
Now in Paris and under a different identity, the question remains whether what happened to Eli will be mentioned again and whether Jo is still sending her money. Plus, Joe’s obsessive nature is sure to make him seek her out at some point.
‘You’ season 4 on Netflix consists of two parts, the first will premiere on February 9th and the second with 5 episodes on March 9th, 2023.
