“There were a lot of old-fashioned jokes in the script. We got rid of all of them.”
Harrison Ford has revealed that his new film, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’, will differ stylistically from previous releases.
Speaking about reprising his iconic role in the new film, in an interview with The Hollywood ReporterFord explained how the film differs from 2008’s ‘Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull’ — including cutting some “Indy” jokes from the script.
“There were a lot of old-fashioned jokes in the script. We got rid of all of them,Ford commented, adding that he wanted the audience to experience the story, rather than be guided through it.
“There’s a moment when you look at yourself in a situation and say, ‘What the f*** am I doing here?’ He hates what is called ‘plot talk’,” continued.
“I want to see situations where the audience gets a chance to experience the story, not be led the way with flashlights.. I prefer to act in such a way that age is a joke, rather than talk about it specifically.”
With its premiere scheduled this summer, ‘El Dial del Destino’ will see the actor join PHoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen. In addition, returning to this film we will see John Rhys Davies (‘The Last Crusade’), which will once again give life to Sallah.
James Mangold, who has taken over the role previously played by Steven Spielberg, has confirmed that the project was completed in February 2022, after a series of delays.
The first official trailer for the film dropped late last year and gave us a brief glimpse of Ford on his new adventure. We could also see a scene flashback in which you can see the drastically rejuvenated actor.
Talking about this process in The Late Show with Stephen ColbertFord explained how this ‘de-aging’ process worked.
“It’s my real face at that age,” he said, indicating that the artificial intelligence used was able to recover archival material, from all his films with Lucasfilmsto create the rejuvenated version of himself.
‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’ is scheduled to premiere in June 2023.
