On social media, Bahian Mariene de Castro vented about not being invited to sing at the Carnival in the city where she was born
Indicated to Latin Grammy in 2020, the singer Mariene de Castro used her social networks to vent last Tuesday, the 14th. In her publication, the Bahian woman criticized the fact that for years she has not been invited to sing at the Salvador Carnival, where she was born and raised.
“A lot of people asking me why I’m out of Salvador’s carnival. I don’t see anything new in that.” “I can’t remember the last time I was invited to sing at my city’s carnival by the bodies responsible for the biggest party on the planet.”
In an almost poetic message, the 44-year-old singer, also known as Maricotta tried to answer the fans’ question, looking for a reason for his absence from the Carnival in the city where he grew up. “I even asked myself that. And I even thought it was something within my competence. I’ve come to think that the problem was with me. But it’s not ”, she fired.
I was born and raised in this city that never gave dignity to the music I make. Why? I don’t know. Indeed! It must be because I sing macumba. I’ve already been told to stop singing these things, it’s the devil’s thing.”
Pondering that it belongs to samba and that samba from Bahia “is part of Salvador’s Carnival”, Mariene de Castro he also criticized the fees received by several artists. “It must be that a singer who sings with a plate in her hand must be begging, right?”, She asked.
“Is that why the fees that are offered do not match the fortunes paid to artists who do not sing with a cymbal in hand? I don’t think I’m going to sing with a plate in my hand anymore to see if people understand that I’m not asking for alms. That I just want to sing. With dignity. The same dignity as everyone. But everyone is something that does not exist. Not here in Salvador, not anywhere else. There are people who eat gold and people who pick up garbage to eat.”
With several albums already released, Mariene ended the text confirming that it is not really in the Carnival of Salvador. “I remember that in 2019 I went to sing in Recife at the biggest Carnival in the city. I was treated like a queen. Huh. Then that’s it. Santo de Casa does not perform a miracle, ”she wrote.
OK I understand. Then saw! The color of this city is not me! The corner of this city is not mine! Even so! I’ll keep singing! For I am water. Never forget that.”
In the publication’s comments, the singer from Bahia received support from fans and artists, including Teresa Cristina It is Isabel Fillardis. “Sister, and I thought there was something wrong with me. I’m always invited and not invited, I don’t know what to think. I read your statement now and I was ashamed. Shame to doubt my talent, because I know yours very well Let’s keep going!”, declared Teresa.
