Since the 1970s, Paul Stanley has always had a big problem as a member of Kiss.
One of the greatest rock bands in history with a career spanning nearly 50 years, kiss racked up hits and legions of fans, but not everything is perfect for the guitarist and vocalist Paul Stanleywho detests a particular detail in the musical work.
As Ultimate Classic Rock remembered, Stanley is a great critic of extensive concert tours with many dates – and he was already talking about it in the 1970s. It is worth remembering how, nowadays, kiss it’s in “end of the road,” a farewell tour of the stages that was postponed several times (mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic).
During an interview with louder sound in February 2023, the musician recalled a fight with Bill Aucoinbusinessman, in the 1970s. “I got angry and he said: ‘paulit’s my job to book you shows, and it’s up to you to tell me when to stop,'” he said. “It was an epiphany for me, because it’s really up to the musician to decide how much and when is enough.
So, when kiss tours, it’s because we choose to, not because we’re told to. Musicians need to remember how the manager works for them; they don’t work for manager or show producer.
“It’s unfortunate when there are situations that take advantage of artists, particularly when they’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and when they’re working beyond what’s healthy,” he continued. Paul Stanley. “Unfortunately, some musicians aren’t healthy to begin with, and this never-ending cycle can lead to tragedy, as we’ve seen.”
At another point in the conversation, Stanley was asked how it will look when, finally, kiss retire from the stage (if such a day exists). “My thoughts on that are changing, even more so as the tour approaches its final stages. Talking of the end theoretically is one thing, but seeing the end imminent is another,” he replied.
It’s scary, part of an intellectual choice, but it’s impossible not to feel the emotional impact. I think about it more and more all the time, and these shows become more precious and meaningful as they come to an end. But in the meantime, we’ll break everything and blow up as many things as possible.
