The children’s book Amoras, by Emicida, was vandalized by the mother of a student at a school in Salvador
Emicidal spoke out after vandalism against his children’s book blackberries. Pages that contained information about orixás were scribbled, called “false” and psalms were included by the mother of a private school student in Salvador.
The musician commented on the case last Tuesday, 7, on his social networks: “Today my reaction to this is one of sadness. Not a sadness of defeat. The story of the book, it speaks for itself, and it is a great victory. The repercussions it speaks for itself.”
“The sadness is for these people who want their religion, in this case the Christian, Protestant, known as evangelicals, to be respected, and should be respected, but they are not predisposed even for a second to respect other ways of living, of existing and to manifest your faith,” continued (via Faces).
Emicidal he also highlighted that this is not the first time he has had to deal with this type of behavior, which can be framed as religious racism: “At first, immature, I got angry and took it personally, but it was a much bigger issue.”
“So, I was sad, because it is sad to live among radicals who propose to ban and vandalize children’s books. Books. Especially a book as inoffensive as this one, ‘Amoras’. I mean harmless for non-racists,” he added.
