Musician was part of Viper, the band responsible for revealing vocalist Andre Matos to the world, before joining Dinho Ouro Preto and company
Many heavy metal fans were surprised when, in 2001, guitarist Yves Passarell was announced as a new member of Initial Capital, replacing Loro Jones. Known for work with the viper — group responsible for revealing to the world the vocalist André Matos —, the musician did not seem to have the pop rock profile that the band led by the singerDinho Ouro Pretopresented in that period.
Time has proven that the choice was right. passerell is part of capital for more than two decades and fit not only with the desired sound proposal, but also with the intense rhythm of appointments — Jonesa longtime member, had left due to excessive workload after the new wave of popularity with the album MTV acousticreleased in 2000.
Ultimately, how yves ended up in Capital? In two videos published on YouTube, the musician explained the origin of their bond. One of them is on the band’s own channel and was made available in 2020. The other is a fragment of an interview with wikimetal, held the following year.
Initially, the guitarist recalled that he knew the members of Initial Capital for a long time, since the group formed in Brasilia moved to São Paulo instead of going to Rio de Janeiro, like other of their colleagues in the movement. In the 1990s, a change in line-up had already impacted the project: Dinho left and gave way to Murilo Limawhich remained between 1992 and 1997.
On the official channel of capital, yves pointed out that the original formation of the band returned at the end of that decade. However, even during the tour that promoted the mtv acoustic,Loro Jones it went out. That’s when the invitation for the guitarist came up. To the wikimetalhe counts:
“O parrot I was already setting up a studio in Brasilia, I wanted to be more relaxed, because it’s a rush. I remember my first year, 2002, at the time of the album Rosas e Vinho Tinto, apart from the end of the Acústico MTV tour, there were about 160 shows in one year. For rock, it was: ‘wow’. I couldn’t stop at home. It was great. Afterwards, they were reducing, but the average was 100 shows in the year.”
family connection
The members of Initial Capital arrived at the name of Yves Passarell also on account of his brother, pitwho was bassist for viper and had written some songs for the pop rock band. One of them was “The world”, first single from the album Behind the Eyes (1998). During the interview to wikimetalthe guitarist commented:
“I wasn’t in the band yet. […] That single was successful, it’s a very special song for Capital. It was the rebirth. […] Pit also made ‘Depois da Meia-Noite’, ‘Algum Dia’, among other partnerships with Dinho.”
Already on the channel YouTube of Capital, yves reflected on how he ended up joining the band at just the right time, given that his first album with her, rosesIt is Red wine, became a huge success. It was from him that songs like “Your way” (cover from Soda Stereo), “Four Times You” It is “Red eyes”.
“I was so lucky. We rehearsed, we did four pre-production sessions for this record. […] Just pearl after pearl. Cool songs, compositions by Dinho, Alvin L, Pit, Kiko Zambianchi… I was lucky that this was my first album with Capital. I had already recorded several with Viper, traveled the world, had experience, so everything worked out well in the beginning. You are carried away by the events in life.”
