The ongoing event in November includes new categories and changes to the current ones
It’s almost time. The upcoming edition of the main award for South and Central American music, the Latin Grammy, will especially honor songs in Portuguese and composers in its 24th edition. The awards ceremony takes place in November.
The new category, which interests Brazilian artists the most, is “Best Interpretation of Urban Music in Portuguese”.
Among other changes, the most significant is the recognition for the first time of composers and not just performers, who are always at the forefront of the spotlight.
The requirements are that the competing composer have a minimum of six new songs written, on which they have songwriter or co-writer credits and no producer, engineer or performer credits.
“Our commitment is to serve and properly represent the creators of Latin music,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy. “We are delighted to introduce these new categories that reflect the constant evolution of our music,” he says.
Other new categories are “Best Song by Songwriter” and “Best Production Engineering Album”.
For the “Album of the Year” category, entries must contain at least 51% playing time of newly recorded material.
