The first day of the festival also features concerts by Lil Nas X, Pedro Sampaio and the duo Anavitoria
Up until just before 10am on this Friday the 24th, the São Paulo metro strike (and rotation suspension) was already showing its marks in the city’s traffic – which has only increased with revelers eager to arrive for the first day of Lollapalooza Brazil 2023.
The gates would have opened at 11, but as of midnight Thursday at the top of the line is 15-year-old Noemi Lacerda da Silva. She arrived with her mother, Gabriella, and in a few minutes she already had a group of new friends sharing the same interest: to see Billie Eilish.
“We were almost robbed four times. Fortunately, the police escorted us from gate A to gate G, which was guarded here,” says Andréia dos santos silva, 17, who came from Alagoas for the festival.
The plan after opening was the same for everyone: stand on the railing of the Budweiser stage, where Billie sings today at 9:15pm. “It was scary, it was tiring but it will be worth it. Especially when we make friends with people who understand what it is like to be a fan of the genre and who like the same artist as you,” shares Aimê Sousa Godoi, 19, who was from from the city of Palmital, in the interior of São Paulo.
A few feet away, the trio of childhood friends, Lucas Pereira Silva, 21, Alessandra Oliveira, 20, and Isis de Lima Pires, 21, braved the strong sun from 8:40am to see the headlining singer this Friday. “Because we live in the South Area, we got there without problems on the train, which was quiet and very empty,” Lucas says. “Now we stop there just to get some water and nothing takes me away from the Billie stage,” Isis adds.
In addition to Billie, they intend to take advantage of the concerts of Anavitoria and Kali Uchis which take place on the same stage.
