The group headlined this Saturday the 25th, but were replaced at the last minute by Twenty One Pilots; several disappointed audiences still went to the festival
As well as the trendy looks and stylized pieces the attendees mentioned Lollapalooza usually on display during the days of the festival, there was something common in the garments of the second day of the event: blouses from Blink-182 gang.
“I had other blouses, even more comfortable than this one, which were cooler and similar, but I chose the Blink one just to show my protest against the festival,” said innovation analyst Thiago Marcilio, 35.
“One of the problems was that Lolla replaced the band with something completely foreign [Twenty One Pilots]. It’s not the same style of music as Blink, they could have looked better. So I felt really pained, “he vented.” The same thing happened to Willow [Smith] which he canceled and was replaced by Bacchus [Exu do Blues]. He’s an artist that I love, but he’s not international and it has nothing to do with his style.”
In early March, the band Blink-182 canceled all concerts they were going to do in South America and Mexico. The reason was an injury sustained by the drummer, Travis Barker, who had to have surgery on his finger.
Blink-182 have never played in Brazil
This would be the band’s first time in the country. Precisely for this reason, on social networks, the vocalist Tom DeLonge has confirmed his commitment to play, in 2024, both in Brazil and in the other Latin American countries that will welcome the trio. “It’s so sad. This would be one of the greatest shows we’ve ever done. But we’re coming back, the three of us together.”
Architect Raphaela de Giorgio, 30, a friend of Thiago, thought of celebrating her birthday by watching her favorite band. “I never thought I’d see him live, because Travis (Barker) is afraid of flying and they had a fight with Tom (DeLonge). Then something utopian happened, Travis overcame his fear and the original trio reunited after cancer from Mark. And they cancelled,” she says, frustrated.
Friends said they would see Twenty One Pilots perform, but they were looking forward to it. “It is what it is, so let’s have fun,” they said.
Unlike them, the couple Andrea Feresin, 30, and Lucas Cunha, 33, producers of Blink-182 content, have decided to face the change with the best of intentions.
“They [Twenty One Pilots] they’ll play Blink, it’ll be cool. The boys are very artistic. He was an ‘okay’ replacement,” Lucas said. The pair secured tickets in October, when there was already a chance that Blink-182 would make it to Brazil.
“When we bought the ticket, the day of Blink was already sold out. In order not to miss it, we bought the Pass [que dá direito a mais de um dia de show] to take advantage of Blink, and this is not included in the refund. We even tried to resell it, but the trip was already planned,” the couple from Goiânia complained.
Cashback to Blink-182 fans at Lollapalooza
The organization of the festival has allowed a refund request to all those who have purchased the Lolla Day, Lolla Comfort Day and Lolla Lounge Day modes for Saturday, the date on which the band would perform. For those who purchased the Lolla Pass, valid for the three days of the festival, however, there was no refund policy.
Therefore, the reasons for the “blouse protest” were different. Either because of the fan’s sadness at not being able to see the band, the lack of a cancellation option, a lack of identification with the replacement show, or the short time between cancellation and the festival. This was the case of the student Simone Quintela, 29 years old.
“I’m from Acre, so when I bought the ticket — which I’ve tried to buy three times — I had already planned to come. I bought a Saturday ticket just for them (Blink), but I didn’t want to miss out on the tour,” he said . “I was born in 1993, so let’s just say I’ve been waiting for this show since 1994.
Last year, Simone also came to the festival for just one day and for one band: Foo Fighters, who had to cancel their participation due to the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.
