Lollapalooza 2023: ‘We were surprised by Drake’s absence,’ say organizers

In a statement contesting Estadão’s remarks, the organizers said that “the history of the Festival’s relationship with Brazilian and foreign artists is one of mutual respect”.

With the end of another edition of the Lollapaloozaanalyzes with negative and positive aspects of the festival have been published on different platforms, which has motivated the organization of the event to comment on some of them, such as the one published by Stadium, Lollapalooza 2023: Drake’s Banana exposes the virality of festivals in the country.

According to the organizers, the role of black women AND trans people at the event is a result after decades of struggle. “This is not a concession or a ‘diversionary manoeuvre’ on the part of the organization, as these people would not allow themselves to be manipulated”, reads the text of a statement.

The text also states that “it does not exist and has never existed” practice of slavery in the premises of national lollapalooza. “We deeply regret that five employees of the event service provider slept in the beverage storage areas. But using a term to characterize this situation that refers to the genocide of a people is something we repudiate,” the statement continued.

On the abandonment of the Canadian rapper dragon to perform on Sunday night (the announcement came in the morning of the same day), the organizers say they are surprised by the absence of one of their main attractions. “But we have maintained the usual attitude of total transparency with our audience, divulging all the information received from the singer’s staff”.

Finally, about the discrepancy in relation to the value of commissions paid to domestic and foreign artists, the organization says the story is a story of mutual respect. “We believe that the contractual terms agreed are always those that best serve the interests of both parties: Lollapalooza Brazil AND artist“, the statement said.
