TuneCore CEO comments on the independent music scene in the world
In the growing Brazilian music market over the years, independent musicians have conquered their space, mainly with the popularization of the internet and music streamings.
To talk about this subject, the CEO of TuneCore, a platform specialized in helping these artists, Andrea Gleesontells a little about the brand and its goals. “I have been with the company for seven years. Since then, there have been many changes in the world of music. Today, they are proud to be independent.”he says.
According to her, it is vital to help them at every stage of their careers. “Our mission is to develop them at all stages. We are a ‘self-service’ distributor, but there is also the option of providing further support, if needed, together with our parent company Believe. “We are always looking to help our artists grow and succeed“, reveals.
All of this comes with a helping hand to understand the industry as a whole. “The music industry changes very quickly, so one of our goals is to make you understand what’s going on. It’s a lot and it can be daunting, so we aim to provide the best education, in a succinct and useful way.”, comments.
TuneCore has entered emerging markets such as Latin America, Brazil and Africa, and Andrea Tell us a little bit about your vision of them. “In the United States and Europe, the old industry remains very strong. In these places, however, they are moving to higher stages in their careers more quickly. New musicians may have little perception of what it was like before, so they adopt technology more easily, gaining an advantage over those who emerged 10 years ago, for example. This makes it easier for them to break down barriers, all thanks to the digital world and streaming.”, reflects.
“There are many possibilities when it comes to independent musicians. By doing everything themselves, they realize they have control, deciding how and when to act. We are very excited to be a part of it”complete.
Still on the music industry scenario, the CEO talks a little about the biggest challenges she has experienced and still faces, in an area that is still predominantly male. “Before joining TuneCore, I worked in retail, where women occupy space at all levels. Coming to this sector, I noticed that there were many more men. This goes for artists too. When I started, only 28% of them were female, and it didn’t make sense to me that their participation was so low. There are a few main reasons for this: harassment, discrimination and lack of opportunities are just a few of them.”comments.
“If you don’t know that this is a problem and you don’t know the reasons for it being this way, how is it going to change? Change starts with knowledge, understanding what you need to do and taking action. With that, we have ways to help them in order to make the industry more diverse. At TuneCore, we work to ensure we hire more women, as well as more members representing diverse racial and ethnic groups. We set targets and measure how we are evolving so that we can create a more representative industry at all levels.”ends.
