In a new interview for the 20 Minuten Switzerlandtranscribed by blabbermouththe drummer said how grateful he is for the “fantastic” reception the band received with the new record, but that the internal measure of success of the metallica is to make an album they are proud of.
In the past, there were times when you had to make a record. the record company [diria a vocĂȘ]: ‘Now you have to burn a disc.’ Those days are gone, now we make music because we want to, and we do it with joy and a feeling of appreciation.
Ulrich went on to reiterate that lack of inspiration is not something the metallica suffers, and that they don’t have enough time in the world to really record all the ideas they have in the vaults. “We’ll never be able to flesh out all the riffs and ideas because we won’t have time to produce.”
There was never a conversation about whether we should make new music or we shouldn’t make new music. So it’s never a question like that. New music is a vital, vital, huge, huge, meaningful part of who we are.”
