New artists of the 21st century are driving the recorded music market in the UKwith almost three quarters of the Top 100 hits of 2022reveals a new analysis of the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), which represents record companies in the UK region.
Driven by megahit How it was In Harry Stylesthe list with the most played songs of the 2020s account for 72% of the top 100 tracks of 2022 In the UK.
That is, almost four out of five transmissions generated by 15 thousand tracks the most played songs of the year went to songs released after the turn of the millennium and another quarter to songs from the past two years.

This digital environment will continue to generate additional new revenue for these artists, unlike selling a download or physical product where revenue is only generated once, on the site where music fans shop.
A notable trend that this analysis of BPI extension is the time it takes for a track to reach its commercial peak after release. As an example, an artist known as The cat burns released their debut single go in July 2020. It had not yet peaked at Official Singles Chart until June 2022, remaining in second position.
Tracks older than a year are currently defined by market players (recorders and labels) as a catalogue.
