Rita Lee warned that he did not count on the presence of politicians at his wake. In a text published in his 2016 autobiography entitled “Prophecy,” the singer stated: “No politician will dare to attend my wake, since I have never attended the podium of any of them and I would get up from the coffin to boo them.”
Despite that, Eduardo Suplicy, state deputy of São Paulo, attended the ceremony, held this Wednesday, the 10th, at the Planetarium in Ibirapuera Park, in the city of São Paulo. In an interview with SP1from the Rede Globohe justified his presence (via splashUOL):
“I know that it is written in her last book that politicians should not come to her wake, because she is capable of even getting up from her coffin and cursing politicians. But when she released her last biographical book, I went to the launch and she gave me a hug of great friendship.”
“She deserves all our friendship because she brought us so much joy and will continue to do so, because her songs are forever in the memory of the Brazilian people,” he added.
