Sting Believes All Defunct Bands Should Reunite At Least ‘Once’

Sting even revealed why he didn’t make new music with The Police at the band’s last meeting.

Stingbassist of The Police, argued that all bands that have already broken up should reunite at least once. In an interview with Music Week (via Ultimate Classic Rock), the musician stressed, however, that the meeting should not be permanent.

“Only once! And the timing has to be right. When The Police got together, it was a long time ago and the time was right to do this. And I take credit, since it was my decision,” he explained, recalling a meeting with his former band.

Sting even dampened any expectations about a new tour: “Doing it again wouldn’t be justifiable, it’s not going to happen. But we did it once, and everyone was happy that Mom and Dad were together again.”

Although he has no problems with former colleagues, the bassist said he feels better outside of a band, but highlighted the intense relationship: “When you start a band, you live together, sleep together in the van, share hotel rooms. Your life is completely glued to the other guys in the band.”

Asked if he considered writing new songs with The Police, Sting stated, “It was nostalgia, recreating that for a short period. No, we didn’t even try.”
