Andy Rourke had pancreatic cancer, according to former bandmate Johnny Marr
Andy Rourkebassist of the band The Smithshad his death confirmed this Friday, 19. Johnny Marra former bandmate, stated that he faced “long-lasting pancreatic cancer,” as reported by Rolling Stone UK.
“andy will be remembered as a beautiful and kind soul by those who knew him and as a talented musician by his fans,” Marr stated.
Rourke was on the four studio albums of Smiths and was responsible for the bass lines that characterized the success of the 1980s. Marr when he was just 11 years old and they played together at school.
The musician also participated in the band The Pretenders and the supergroup freebassalongside the legend of new orderPeter Hook it’s from maniof stone roses.
In 2022, Rourke was next to Johnny Marr at Madison Square Garden to play some tracks from Smiths. Also last year, there was the first reunion of the two in 35 years to perform a song from blitz vegaanother bassist’s band.
